Interactive installation based on a new sensing technology. Presented at the SIGGRAPH 2012 emerging technologies exhibition.
Botanicus Interacticus explores new modes of interaction between humans and living plants by instrumenting them with the rich touch and gesture sensitivity of the Touché sensor technology. Touché can detect and interpret fine motions in humans, objects, and plants that enables gestures recognition such as sliding fingers on the stem of an orchid, thus estimating touch contact to present each plant’s unique interactive, visual, and auditory character.
Shapes and colors surrounding the plants were triggered and transformed by the gestures and the proximity between the visitors and the plant’s features in an Aurora-like visual and spatial interactive installation.
